attestation from Govt. gazetted officer on xeroxed documents.?
While submitting xeroxed documents like marks cards, certificate etc. it becomes necessery to take attestation from Govt. gazitted officer. I feel that this procedure was correct when Xerox machines were not invented / avaliable. During those days copy of the origional was typed or hand written. so it was necessery to be checkd by the gazitted officer to avoide errors. I feel that today when Xerox copy is avaliable it is not necessery to take attestation from gazitted officer. If some one is manupulating the xerox copy; they should be punished legally. The draw back behind taking attestation is that, no gazitted officer is free to check the entire xerox copy and hence they simply denay for attestation even after wating for along time infront of gazitted officers room. Here mostly poor and obdient person needing attestation suffers. Hence I feel that self attestation must be made legal while submitting any xeroxed document. Self attestion makes an individual to feel responsible.

Best Answer: Let me inform you attestation of any copy of the original document by a gazetted officer is legally recognized by most of the authorities where such copy of the original document has to be submitted, the other authorities whose attestation is legally valid is notary public & even oath commissioner whom you'll find in large number sitting outside any District Court. As far self attestation is concerned some authorities do take self attested copies of the original but mostly the attestation of gazetted officer, notary public, oath commissioner, M.P., M.L.A., & even in certain cases the Advocates are legally recognized, here I want to make it clear before any one ask me how come attestation done by a Advocate/Lawyer is allowed & where, for them I myself have attested copies of the original those where used by people for Embassy purposes. May be in India value of an Advocate/lawyer may not be so much but in most of the other countries the attestation of an Advocate/Lawyer is given the highest preference even over any other authorities.

- Attestation is required just to inform the concerned authority accepting the xerox copies that it is a true copy's xerox. The person who attests the copies just checks if u have taken xerox of the true and original documents and not done something illegal.U can attest the copies not only from the gazitted officer but also from ur college principal.kattu · 8 years ago01
- Any one can add or subtract in a photo copy by keeping fresh note onthe original before taking a photo copy.So there is no guarentee that the photo copy is authentic. Therefore a responsible person has to see the original and ensure no foul play is there.murthyssr9 · 8 years ago00
