Bharthruhari Neethi Sathakam - Satakamulu

For a great man, his knowledge is the real adornment. His wise words shine like real gems

Bhooshalu gaavu marthyulaku bhoorimayaangada thaarahaaramul Bhooshithakesapaasa mrudu pushpasugandha jalaabhishekamul
Bhooshalu gaavu poorushuni bhooshithajeyu bavithravaani vaa Gbhooshaname subhooshanamu bhooshanamulo nasinchu nanniyun//15//
keyooraani na bhooshayanthi purusham haaraa na chandhrojvalaa |

na snaanam navilepanam nakusumam naalam kruthaamoorthajaa ||

vaanyekaa namalamkarothi purusham yaa samskruthaa dhaaryathe |

kshiyanthe khila bhooshanaanisathatham vaagbhooshanam bhooshanam ||
It is not the crowns, nor the bedecked golden chains that give beauty to a man. Neither bathing oneself in scented water, nor applying perfumed oils, nor beautiful floral arrangements adorn him/her. It is the knowledge and wisdom that flows in one speech, the refined words that are the real adornments to a man.

This poem says that without knowledge and wisdom, it is useless to deck up oneself with various adornments.
